Dolphin Head Nebula, also known as Sharpless 308 or LDN 1052, is a bubble-shaped region of ionized Hydrogen around a Wolf–Rayet star in constellation Canis Major, 4530 light years away from Earth. The nebula formed about 70,000 years ago when the central star started producing heavier elements and as the result pushed out the outer Hydrogen layer.

 

This was imaged in early 2023 using Celestron EdgeHD 8" SCT and Hyperstar v4 (for 380mm effective focal length), using ultra-narrowband (3nm bandpass) Hydrogen-alpha and Oxygen-II filters and ZWO ASI294MM Pro camera, from Los Angeles Astronomical Society's dark skies site in Lockwood Valley, California.
The image is in "false colour", with reds representing ionized Hydrogen and blues representing ionized Oxygen molecules.
