The Crab Nebula (M1, Messier 1, NGC 1952) is a supernova remnant in constellation Taurus about 6500 light years away from Earth. The nebula was discovered by English astronomer John Bevis in 1731. It corresponds with a bright supernova recorded by Chinese astronomers in 1054 as a guest star. Too small and dim for the naked eye but can be seen in good binoculars from dark skies locations. It's still expanding outward at about 1,500 km/s, so in 10 years or longer it will look different.

This image was taken with Celestron EdgeHD 8" telescope and ZWO cooled astronomical camera (ASI294MM Pro) using Optolong narrowband filters (6nm bandpass), yielding four false-colour images: wide field image in HOO palette, HOO closeup, wide fieldin HSO palette and HSO closeup. "HOO" means Hydrogen-alpha emissions are mapped into Red channel and Oxygen emissions are mapped into Green and Blue channels. In this case the resulting image is in beautiful Blue (oxygen) & Gold (hydrogen). The second pair of images maps Hydrogen into Red, Sulfur into Green and Oxygen II emissions into Blue channels.
